Good bye Sand World
04.09.2005
Today visitors should say good bye to Sand World on Priwall Beach. The sand sculpture park is closing at 12 p.m. More than 290.000 people have visited Sand World since July, 8. Especially families were interested in this year’s motto “Magical and Fabulous”. Both children and adults enjoyed the fairy-tale image.

Tomorrow the sand sculpture festival is opening at 10, in order to give blind and visually handicapped the opportunity to “see” Sand World with their hands. Opening hours: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

On Thuesday cutback will be starting. By mid-September, the sandy fairy-tales will have disappeared from Priwall Beach. All sculptures, such as the Castle or Frog King will be destroyed by caterpillars and other heavy machines. Once the special sculpting sand is separated from the basic sand, it will be transported to Schönberg waste dump. The basic sand, however, will be left on the beach with permission of local nature conservation authorities, since the structure is very similar to the original sand. Next year’s Sand World is going to use the basic sand again.

The fact that the sculptures are being destroyed at the end is no reason to be sad for the artists. Their art is naturally fading. Once work is over at one site, artists travel to another place anywhere in the world to show their skills. There will definitely be a reunion and new sculptures on next year’s Sand World from July, 07 – September, 03, 2006.

P.S.: We are still collecting ideas for next year’s motto. Let us know if you have a special topic that you wish to see. E-mail us: pr@luebeck-tourismus.de.
