Cutback has started
06.09.2005
Today the cutback started on the sculpture park on Priwall Beach. After eight weeks with almost 300.000 visitors Sand World’s gates were closed on Sunday.

Now workers, technicians, trucks and caterpillars dominate the Sand World area. By mid-September the sandy sculptures will have disappeared completely. Only memories will remain. Even Sleeping Beauty’s kingdom, which had fallen into a 100-years sleep on Sand World, will not escape the bulldozers. The old King was already kicked off his thrown this morning...

First of all, lamps, speakers and cable are being removed from the whole area. Simultaneously tents, pagoda and containers are being cleared and later removed. The grandstands, entrance gate, five islands, counter houses, the kids’ area and the fence will follow. The lake’s water will be pumped off and plants that were growing all over the park are being stored for the winter time.

Once the sculpture sand is separated from the basic sand, it will be transported to Schönberg waste dump. There they use the sand for maintenance of the dump. The basic sand, however, will be left on the beach with permission of local nature conservation authorities, since the structure is very similar to the natural sand of Priwall Beach. Next year’s Sand World is going to use the basic sand again.

For next year’s holiday planning: Sand World 2006 is taking place from July, 07 until September, 03.
