evolution Travel through time and human history with Sand World! The sand sculpture festival at Travemünde Beach opens on July 6 until September 2, 2007. True to the motto of global history, the event is will offer an interesting journey through time and space. Just made of water and sand, the sculptures will represent the world’s greatest buildings, most important people and inventions, as well as the most exciting events from antiquity to modern times.
Gathering around a fire with Stone Age people, and a minute later discovering America side by side with Columbus? Or visiting Napoleon and the next moment watching Neil Armstrong do a giant leap for mankind? No problem, Sand World will make wishes come true! The exciting time travel on the Sand World area will also include a trip to the glamorous world of fashion, music and literature. Most stunning examples of science and technology will complete the journey through human history.
Using 9,000 tons of sand, 75 international sculptors, so-called carvers, are building the up to 12 meters high masterpieces of sand on an area of 10,000 sq.m. on Travemünde Beach. During the first three days of the festival, visitors will get the opportunity to watch the carvers while they are putting the finishing touches to their artwork that is made of special sculpturing sand. Due to its cubic structure, this sand is extraordinarily well suited for high stacking. After the process of carving, the sculptures will keep in perfect shape for several weeks.
Those who want to build their own sand sculptures or learn how professionals work with the sculpture sand can take part in workshops lasting two hours – under the supervision of professional carvers, of course. There are daily classes at 11.00 am. Registration is required. Fee: € 8 p.p. For registration either call Tel. +49-1805-88 22 33 (0,14 €/min.), or contact the team at the Sand World directly on-site. Entertaining programs for children and guided tours through the sculpture park will complete the program. Sand World’s catering invites all visitors to relax and to enjoy the atmosphere.
The sculpture park will be open July 6 – September 2, 2007 and can be visited daily 10.00 am through 08.00 pm. Entrance fee will be € 7.00 p.p. for adults and € 4.00 p.p. for children aged 5 to 14 years.
