Delivery of the sand
The time has come! The shipment of the sculpturing sand from June 4-6 for the Sand World 2007 is the starting point of the four-week long setting up of the sand sculpture festival directly at the Travemünde Priwall beach. This year for the first time the special sculpturing sand with the angular grain comes from the Brandenburg Sand and Mortar Factory Niederlehme (a total of 3.500 t).

It takes the five inland vessels Avalon, Spardera, Vorwärts, Domito and Panda about one week before they arrive with their “sandy load” between June 4 and 6 at the Kohlenhof in Travemünde. Their journey takes them via the Elbe-Havel-Channel, the Mittelland-Channel, the Elbe-Side-Channel, and the Elbe-Lübeck-Channel to the Trave-mouth to deliver the sculpturing sand on time for the commencing of the setting-up in Travemünde.
Sand, sand, sand
Sand, sand, sand

A total of 9.000 tons of sand (basis sand plus sculpturing sand) is needed to create the fascinating sculpture park on the Priwall. Within the next few days, the area with 10.000 square metres directly at the beach, will be marked and fenced in. The areas on which the sculptures will be created within the next few weeks will also be measured and marked. Containers for technical supplies, staff and the organizational office as well as tents for the catering will be put up, electricity- and water connections laid, and paths made up on the sand throughout the venue. The basis sand necessary for the foundation of the sculptures (approx. 5.000 tons) will be supplied June 11-13 from a nearby gravel pit in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Roggenstorf).

The “compacting” of the sand begins on June 18 and on the 25th of June the sand sculptors begin with their artistic work to let the history of mankind come alive before July 6.
The sand sculpture festival at the Travemünde Baltic Sea - true to the motto of global history- will offer an interesting journey through time and space. Just made of water and sand, the sculptures will represent the world’s greatest buildings, most important people and inventions, as well as the most exciting events from antiquity to modern times.

The sculpture park will be open July 6 – September 2, 2007 and can be visited daily 10.00 am through 08.00 pm. Entrance fee will be € 7.00 p.p. for adults and € 4.00 p.p. for children aged 5 to 14 years. This year’s novelty is the family ticket for two adults and one child for € 16.00; for each additional child € 3.00 (up to 4 children). For further information call 01805-88 22 33 (0, 14 €/min.).
