Opening ceremony “All aboard – the journey through times begins” was the motto for the 250 invited guests of the pre-opening of the Sand World 2007 in Travemünde.According to this year’s theme “A journey through time”, the 75 sand sculptors have transformed the Priwall beach into an enormous time machine and yet again managed to astound the guests at the traditional opening ceremony on the eve of the first day of the event. The new Tourism Manager of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck, Andrea Gastager, gave a heartfelt welcome to the guests and thanked all the promoters and sponsors for their friendly support – and of course the international sand sculptors for their fantastic work.
Jana Kürbis, the Sand World project leader, and Eppo Vogel, head of the sand sculpture company Sand Events, Germany, lead the agenda and interviewed the senator of economic and social affairs Wolfgang Halbedel and Klaus Puschaddel, chairman of the supervisory board of the Lübeck and Travemünde Marketing GmbH.
Both were extremely impressed by this year’s Sand World and wished the event great success. A sword-fight in shining armour and protagonists in costumes from the respective eras provided an authentic historical atmosphere in the sculpture park.
Until Sunday, July 8, visitors of the Sand World have the unique opportunity to watch the carvers put the finishing touches on their sculptures. On Monday, July 9, after finishing their work at sand World, the sculptors will travel to the next festival somewhere in the world.
From today until Sunday, September 2, the sculpture park is open daily from 10.00 to 20.00. Admission fee for adults is €7,00 p.p., for children aged 5 to 14 years old € 4,00 p.p.. The admission fee includes the return trip with the Priwall passenger ferry (Nordermole dock).
