The journey through time for the blind and visually impaired has begun!

Today the “barrier-free” Sand World was formally inaugurated by the mayor of Lübeck Bernd Saxe,  Annegret Walter, chairlady of the Schleswig-Holstein Union for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Patricia Bürger, head of division of the ministry for social issues, health, gamily, youth and senior citizens in Schleswig-Holstein.

As in previous years, the sand sculpture festival at the Priwall beach in Travemünde with this year’s motto “A journey through time” offers together with the Union for the Blind and the Visually Impaired the possibility to experience the park “barrier free” with a special audio guide and the text-information-system SCRABBLIXX. The audio guide and SCRABBLIX were made possible with the financial support of the Schleswig-Holstein fund for the blind.

The text-information-system SCRABBLIXX, which has been developed by the Schleswig-Holstein Union for the Blind and Visually impaired, allows the blind and visually impaired to read the sculpture captions on the text tables, which are fixed to the respective sculpture stops. In addition to the Braille, the letters are enlarged and presented in high contrast.

There is also the possibility to use an audio guide suitable for the blind and visually impaired to walkabout the Sand World – based on the guidePORT-systen by SENNHEISER. The experienced descriptive team “North“ of the union “Hörfilm e.V.”, which has composed the audio guide on behalf of the Union for the Blind and Visually Impaired, has much experience in preparing audio descriptive versions for movie and TV productions.

What can usually be grasped visually in the Sand World is now literally being “carried” with words into the ear of the listener. Such an installation helps to reduce barriers and build up sympathy for each other. The guide ports consist of a cigarette-sized receiver and comfort-headphones. They are available in the Sand World Shop for a fee of € 1, 00.
The sculpture park is open until September 2 and can be visited daily from 10 am until 8 pm. The admission fee for adults is € 7,00 p.p., € 4,00 for children aged 5 to 14. For more indo, please call 01805/882233 (€ 0,14/Min.)

Sand World extends an invitation to the traditional „open day“ for the blind and the visually impaired on the day after the official end of the event- Monday, September 3- from 10 am until 5 pm. There will be no admission charged for the blind and visually impaired including their escort on September 3.
Please pre-register groups at the event office of the Lübeck and Travemünde Marketing GmbH by calling 0451/4091-923.
